FAQs

Where and When?

During the riding season we meet at the Cotton Mill pub car park in Kilmarnock. 6.30pm or 7.00pm on Wednesday evenings depending on light availability. Check our events page for the correct timings.

We would suggest showing up 10 minutes early just to give you time to meet the other members and not feel rushed.

Who will I go out with?

Either a senior or one of our more experienced Tutors. Either way it will be someone who has many years of tutoring and who has welcomed other riders to the club. Their job is to make you feel at ease, for you to enjoy the evening, and to explain what we are trying to do.

Will I be riding fast?

No. We encourage you to ride to the road conditions. You should ride at a speed that you feel comfortable with.

Can the Tutor refuse to take me out?

Yes, absolutely. All our Tutors are volunteers, and they may choose not to take you out for any reason. If this happens, they’ll let you know why — but it’s very uncommon. Typically, it’s due to a safety concern with your bike or clothing.

I can’t make Wednesdays.

That’s OK. A lot of Tutors work shifts or have other commitments meaning they can’t make a Wednesday or more than likely, are happy for an excuse to get out on their bike another time. Get in touch with us and we can try and arrange a suitable time.

What to wear?

Just your normal motorcycle safety equipment. If you are new to riding and worried you don’t have the best gear, please don’t be. As long as your clothing and equipment are appropriate for safe riding, that will not be a problem.

How long will we be out?

Depending on the light 1.5 - 2 hours. There will be a few stops to discuss your riding and probably a demonstration ride by the Tutor with you following. Usually end up back at the Cotton Mill for a coffee and a debrief.

Where will we be riding?

Around the beautiful roads of Ayrshire. Our Tutors will have their favourite roads in order to assess your overall ability but there is no set route.

What to bring with me?

This is a taster session so we are not obligated to check your credentials however, we would recommend that you to bring them along. You can ask the tutor if they would like to see them but it will be at their discretion if they do. -

  • Motorcycle licence;

  • Appropriate insurance for your motorcycle;

  • Ensure it is taxed whilst in use on UK roads

  • If relevant, ensure it has a valid MOT certificate
